Kasese Airstrip

With experienced guides leading the way, you’ll navigate challenging trails, ascend to breathtaking viewpoints, and submerge yourself in the wild beauty of the Rwenzori region.
At the end of each day, relax and renew in cozy mountain huts surrounded by the towering peaks, where nutritious meals and warm hospitality await. From sunrise scenes painting the sky in hues of orange and pink to the peacefulness of starlit nights, every moment on your 4-day Rwenzori hiking adventure promises to be an exciting exploration of nature’s wonders.
Upon arrival in Kasese, the gateway to the Rwenzori Mountains, you will meet your guide and transfer to the trailhead at Nyakalengija.
Begin the trek to Nyabitaba Hut, the first overnight stop on the central circuit route.
Trek through lush montane forest, crossing several streams along the way.
Distance: Approximately 9 kilometers.
Duration: 4-6 hours.
Overnight stay at Nyabitaba Hut (2,652 meters).
After breakfast, continue the trek towards John Matte Hut.
Pass through the Kurt Shaffer Bridge and traverse the Bujuku River.
Ascend through the forest and heather zone, with stunning views of the Rwenzori peaks.
Distance: Approximately 11 kilometers.
Duration: 6-7 hours.
Overnight stay at John Matte Hut (3,414 meters).
Depart John Matte Hut and continue ascending through the Alpine Zone.
Trek through the Bigo Bog and ascend to Lake Bujuku, surrounded by towering peaks.
Arrive at Bujuku Hut, situated in a scenic valley beneath Mount Baker and Mount Speke.
Distance: Approximately 6 kilometers.
Duration: 4-5 hours.
Overnight stay at Bujuku Hut (3,962 meters).
Early morning have your breakfast and start to ascend to Elena Hut, passing through the Scott Elliot Pass.
Enjoy panoramic views of the Rwenzori peaks and glaciers.
Descend back to Nyakalengija, completing the central circuit trek.
Distance: Approximately 12 kilometers.
Duration: 8-10 hours.
Transfer back to Kasese.
